Alienated

I wore this today for anyone and everyone who has ever felt alienated. Often, I don't really have anything concrete to say when people say, "Hey, what's with the hat?" or "Can I ask why your face is painted?" or "Why are you all dressed up?" other than simply that "It's more fun than wearing Nike running shorts, TOMS, and a T-shirt," or that "Life is a cabaret!" But today, for anyone who asked, I asked them in return, "Have you ever felt alienated?" Every single person said that yes, they had. And so I told them, "Then it's for you."
I seriously considered carrying around a portable speaker playing Katy Perry's "E.T." on repeat all day.
Sadly, even I'm not that cool... yet. ;-)

They say be afraid
You're not like the others
Futuristic lover
Different DNA
They don't understand you

Gravity is my FRIEND!

Your from a whole other world
A different dimension
You open my eyes
And I'm ready to go
Lead me into the light

Read the Quick Update or Be Quick on the Up-Take

Hey hey,
I have about two readers of this blog (if that), so chances are that nobody will notice, but I'ma be posting out-of-date outfit posts from a while back under the dates (or thereabouts) that I took them, so if random posts appear where no post has gone before, that's why. Hopefully, however, they will be awesome posts where no post has gone before.
A tout a l'heure!

We All Live In A Yellow Submarine

March 17th was National Submarine Day in the United States--
however, St. Patrick's day kind of takes priority for me on the 17th,
so I celebrated on the 18th.

Today was my second run-in with Courtney the yearbook photographer
(I hope I spelled her name right, it could be with a K)--she was working
the yearbook photo table in the SUB when I passed through to get my mail
over lunch.

The first time I wore this dress out in public, Taboo (yes, of the Black
Eyed Peas!) told me he liked my style. Was I feeling giddy, much?
I shop at ROSS, bitches.

A barette I made in my hair-thing-making-frenzy during winter break this year.
Lame photo, Cute bow--my apologies.

Picked up this awesome mug at Peggy Sue's '50s Diner (shaped like a juke box!) on the drive back from Las Vegas to L.A. Peggy Sue's waitresses aren't on rollerskates, but I didn't notice that until the second time I went there because it was otherwise so swimmingly 'fifties! This is one of the three mugs that made it to college with me in the first packing--the other two were my UO all-white gun mug and the ceramic Gryffindor mug my mom and I painted at Bruin Woods many many years ago (the Ravenclaw one will join it someday).

La Fhéile Pádraig Shona Daoibh (Happy St. Patrick's Day)!

I'd been planning wearing this dress for St Patrick's Day for so long--
it's a vintage step-dancing dress I picked up antique shopping a couple years ago.
The tag reads "CUSTOM MADE by Madeleine Los Angeles." I apologize for
not getting great pictures of it today, but I'll wear it again soon and
get better photos... you'll see!

I made these shamrocks myself this morning, by cutting out little squares from green construction paper, folding them in quarters, and then cutting a sort of heart shape on 3 corners. I attached them with eyelash glue--always DUO eyelash adhesive, never the tiny tubes of useless goo that come with falsies.

I've been going crazy for this rainbow hair extension I bought
from Vivid Vivka on Etsy. I seem to be able to make it go with nearly everything! ;-)

Collins Cafe, one of the residential dining halls on campus, made these cupcakes
in celebration of St. Patrick's Day (they also had delicious corned beef, cabbage, black
eyed peas, shepherd's pie, broccoli and rice casserole, and other foods of an Irish nature).
I picked one up because I had to take a picture of it. I didn't plan on eating it due to
my aversion to blue food coloring, BUT THEN...

It just looked so gorgeous!
And disgusting!
And gorgeous!
I remember I kept thinking,
If this weren't a food item, it would be absolutely beautiful...
...but I thought I'd give it a taste anyway.

As it turns out, it was delicious--the cake itself was perfectly moist,
the marshmallow cream was light enough that it wasn't overpowering,
not too sweet, and it didn't taste like food coloring (which was what amazed me!).
Having resolved not to eat any more of it, I ate the whole cupcake.

On my way to lunch, I got stopped for at least three photos, and when I got to Collins,
one of the wonderful ladies who work there wanted to take my picture, too! I have to say that,
while I would still dress up most of the time even if I got no reaction at all and the only person
who noticed was myself, seeing people's reactions is one of the best parts of going all-out any day!

I was going, with the gold dots on my cheeks and the rainbow hairpiece,
for a sort of pot-of-gold-at-the-end-of-the-rainbow-type-thing... I think it worked.
Not so proud of how the undereyes turned out--by that time I was kind of in a hurry, and I happen
to know that the Baylor population almost could not care less whether the gold under my eyes looks
just right.

Fiesta Rainbow

I would like to take this moment to express just how much I miss Mexican food. I mean real Los Angeles Mexican food--and yes, I'm aware that Los Angeles is not Mexico, but damn does a plate of carnitas and tacos de lengua from Tacos La Estrella in Highland Park hit the spot!
One would think that the Mexican food in Texas would be just as good as the Mexican food in California, but No, Siree, you are gravely mistaken. Mex-Mex food is tres hard to find in a place overcome by the dreadful invention of Tex-Mex. Now, I have nothing against food genres that rhyme in general, and there are some good things that have come of large numbers of Germans and Mexicans congregating in the same space (such as the polka, for example), but Tex-Mex is not one of those good things. I'm not gonna go pointing fingers at specific restaurants, but fabulous decor will only get you so far in running a Mexican restaurant if you don't carry horchata. I've already had to start carrying my own chopsticks to local Asian restaurants (Chinese and Vietnamese, namely)--do I have to bring my Klass horchata mix to Mexican restaurants, as well? Okay, enough spoiled food princess (that's "spoiled princess of food," by the way, not "princess of spoiled food..." euch) for today.

Today's outfit was not inspired by a Fiesta Rainbow--it really can't have been, since I've never seen a rainbow while attending a fiesta, at least not so as I can recall--but among the odd comments I recieved today (they're different every day, although there are always the classic "what's the occasion?" and "why are you dressed up like this?") were two "Festive!"s and at least three "Fiesta!"s. Who knew?
Did you ever see a lassie go this way and that way and this way and that way?
Did you ever see a lassie go this way and that?

This reminds me of The Girl With the Pearl Earring. Except, like, The Girl With the Pheasant and Grapes in Her Hair.

Tom, don't look at me like that. You'd have done it, too!

I carry my own chopsticks (because that's totally relevant to this photograph).
