Meet Me at the Graveyard

This was a very impromptu photoshoot--I did the makeup, posted a crap webcam pic on facebook, and a couple of IMs later Liam of Blackrose Photography (with whom I've worked several times before) was meeting me at the graveyard. Edits were teamwork (Liam edited them, hit me with 'em, I edited them some more, blah blah blah).

Meet Me at the Graveyard... sounds like a song... now I have to write it. :) Sounds like a post title for sure, though. Check!

Anywhat, I am very happy to be able to bring you these fab and flashy fotos photos, so...
Feliz Dia de los Muertos!

Makeup is:
  • Graftobian clown white cream, topped with
  • Coastal Scents silica powder (applied with a fan brush all over), then
  • Make Up For Ever black gel liner, and
  • Barry M. dazzle dust in parrot green, applied wet.
Clothing...
  • dress from Ross,
  • pants from ebay
  • flowers from JoAnn Fabrics,
  • shoes from Betsey Johnson. Yay!

Chao!

Peace the Hell Out

I couldn't decide which I liked better, so you got both! It's like, get-one-free-get-another-one-free!
Oh, lucky you. :)

My dear friend and sacred middle-school blood sister gave me these earrings for my birthday one year. From what I understand, she basically cleaned out her room and gave me the stuff she didn't want anymore.
IT WAS FABULOUS.

I think this is the best photo in the set. Usually I take like fifty photos and post the best ones...
today my camera died after 8.

I like doing this cool ghosty effect... it's all ghosty and whatsit...

Crocheted top from Queen Mary Jean,
Black corset from eBay,
Floral jeans from eBay (I'll wear them again soon, have better pictures, and review),
Elephant necklace-that-you-can't-really-see from a swap meet,
Yellow wedges from Target,
Wig from BuyCostumes.com.

I'll see all (six) of you again soon,

Bloody Mary

Love is just a history that they may prove,
And when you're gone I'll tell them my religion's you.

When Pontius comes to kill the king upon his throne,

I'm ready for his stones.

I'll dance, dance, dance
with my hands, hands, hands
above my head, head, head
like Jesus said.

I won't cry for you,
I won't crucify the things you do.

I won't cry for you, see,
when you're gone I'll still be Bloody Mary.

We are not just art for Michelangelo
to carve. He can't rewrite the agro of my furied heart.

I'll wait on mountaintops in Paris cold,

Je ne veux pas mourir toute seule.

Wig "Mesmerelda" from buycostumes.com,
Shirt handmade.

Corset from eBay.
Red skirt handmade.

Top hat from... no idea.
A couple different Revlon colorstay products on the lips,
a RiteAid palette on the eyes with Barry M. gold, etc.

I love you all way too much to murder you with a butter knife and steal your crowning glory.

Pony Express

I brought my beautiful, leather-bound world atlas to university my first semester because I thought it would make me look scholarly to have it on my bookshelf. Also, I'm perfectly horrid at geography, so I thought I might actually use it. The first time I've used it between August 2010 and October 2011 is just today, to take these pictures.
Moral of the story: atlases make good photo props, but are otherwise useless in a world with google maps.

I was inspired today by the fact that I haven't worn this gorgeous shirt since I made it, and was about damn time. Therefore, this happened.

This red eyeshadow (Siren by Lime Crime) came in the mail  yesterday and I was so excited to wear it! I bought it with their Candy-eyed Eyeshadow Helper in their recent sale with the earnings from an art commission I did for the Celestial Opera Company's next production (I'll show you soon, promise!). I'm REALLY happy with both the products, the primer is actually kind of amazing. The eyeshadow kept transferring to my top lid, so I hairsprayed my face. I'll let you know how bad of an idea that was depending on how bad I break out tonight, but it seems to have worked.
Incidentally, I've also got on a yellow-gold shadow and a peach-iridescent shadow above Siren, from a palette my mom had back in high school. Woe betide me when the palette runs out!

I made the hairbow with a barette finding from JoAnn Fabrics, some scrap fabric I had lying around, some string, and hot glue. High-tech, I know.

A standing picture, yay.

Belt borrowed from my mom's closet. Can't remember whether I told her I was taking it this semester, but she has plenty other Western-style belts, so no worries there. Phew!
I think it's kind of awesome, btw.

Character shoes from Danny's Dance Warehouse in LA.
Tights-like socks from Charlotte Russe.

I love the print on this heavy cotton skirt my maternal grandmother gave me. Isn't it great?

As for the Gibson Girl blouse, this was the progeny of my shirt project in Sewing I last semester.
It was... a labour of love, in the truest sense of the phrase.

I started with GREAT fabric, a butternut-colored Swiss Dot of very light cotton, and two types of lace (only one of which shows in these pictures).

All the pin-tucks and set-in lace had to be done before the pieces could be sewn together, and some even before the piece could be completely cut out, like on the front yoke.
Sewing on the Swiss Dot was a bitch--to keep the machine from spazzing out all the time, I had to sew over a sheet of wax paper--I spent at least twice as much time pulling out little bits of wax paper from the seams than I spent actually sewing the lace in. Plus each seam sewing lace in had to be done twice--once to sew it to the fabric, and once to sew the cut-away edges of the fabric to the remaining edges so you can see through the lace. Not to mention that I bought the fabric and lace in downtown LA and ran out of lace halfway through--in Waco, Texas. AAAAAAAGGGHHH!!! That's why I'm done now.
The pattern I used was Gibson Girl Blouse by Folkwear Pattern Company.

It happened.

And now there are pretty pintucks down the front. :)

I <3 U

Then, I went sepia-happy...

All the best to you, my lovely friends and readers!

Comic Book Samurai...

...is AWESOME. Or, you can judge for yourself, because just recently were posted the photos from a photoshoot we did a week or so ago. The CD is in the mail to me, so when it gets here I'll post a few more of my absolute favorites right here on my blog, but for now... FEAST THINE EYES on his flickr, linked below (the photos below are linked from the flickr set). Also, JJ (the photographer) must have a lot of fun naming the pictures, because they all have great (mostly unrelated but really fantastic) titles. :)

Check it out.

Here is his Model Mayhem, too.
Inne AWESOME?!?!?!
Yeah. That's what I thought.

Love ya!

I AM NOT COOL

and that's okay.

For example,

  • I don't go to football games.
  • I don't text.
  • I'm not in a sorority.
  • I didn't get into the NoZe Brotherhood.
  • I wasn't popular in high school.
  • In fact, I was a theater nerd and a choir geek for all four years.
  • I was even a band geek in middle school.
  • I've never had sex.
  • I don't drink. I usually don't even like tiramisu because it tastes like alcohol.
  • I don't smoke. I never have.
  • I've never done drugs.
  • I'm bad at sports.
  • Even quidditch.
  • I'm even bad at video games.
  • I have a tummy. :P
  • I've never even been INSIDE a Victoria's Secret.
  • I get along with my parents.
  • I don't have a car.
  • Or a driver's license.
  • I only speak one language fluently.
  • I get along with my little brother.
  • I am a staunch supporter of the LGBTetc. community, but I'm straight, was born into the right sex, and have never been to pride.
  • I don't have an iPhone or an iPad. My iPod is a first generation nano. It carries so little music that I don't even know where it is.
  • I don't watch TV.
  • I hate energy drinks.
  • I never got married in preschool.
  • I was never elected to homecoming court or anything.
  • I was a girl scout ALL THE WAY.
  • I am a Wiccan at a Baptist University.
  • I'm white.
  • I have no tattoos.
  • I've never been to Urban Outfitters.
  • I shop at Target.
  • And Ross.
  • And Marshalls.
  • And thrift shops.
  • I don't own TOMS.
  • Or Nike running shorts.
  • I've never bought a single piece of college gear.
  • Now I collect Barbies,
  • but when I was a kid, I collected rocks
  • My only two piercings are in my ears.
  • I'm a sophomore, but I still live on campus.
  • My boyfriend is a year younger than me.
  • I don't like rap.
  • I can't dance. Like, really.
  • Not even the kinds of dance I enjoy.
  • I blog, and pretty much no one reads it.
  • Not even my boyfriend.
  • I didn't make it onto the pep squad in middle school.
  • I tried out for the pep squad in middle school.
  • I cried when I didn't make it onto the pep squad in middle school.
  • I don't have a job.
  • Three months into college I called my boyfriend and cried because I had no friends.
But! There's a "But!" I'm also way cool. This post is to make you feel better. If you qualify for a lot of things on the list above, that doesn't make you uncool. I'm just trying to say that the social conventions of cool are SO FAR OFF from what is actually true, at least by my standards. So, point being, you're way cool. Some examples of why I AM cool:
  • I do what I love.
  • I follow my passions, even if they include writing a blog that relatively no one reads.
  • I wear what I want. Including my Caltech pajamas to chemistry class.
  • I laugh at my own jokes, because I think they're funny. Even when they're not.
  • I get along with my family (yes, this is on both lists).
  • Last night I stayed home alone, kind of watched the beginning of 9, and ate cheetos and peanut m&ms with chopsticks. (This one might actually fit better on the other list... but I think that's what I'm trying to say.)
  • I hang out with people who are different from me.
  • I try new things.
  • I'm not scared of bugs, but I'm also not afraid to admit being scared of things, like cars.
  • I take responsibility for things that are my fault.
  • I'm good at a lot of things, but I'll be honest about what I'm not. See above list.
  • I'm proud of most of the things on the above list. Some of them not so much, but most of them... yeah.
I guess all I'm trying to say is that you and me are both cool in different ways, and both of us are cool in ways that are different from what makes other people cool. And, a lot of times, the things that you might think make you uncool actually make you really cool, especially if you're open and honest about them. Learn to laugh at yourself. One of my friends posted as his facebook status the other day, "I just fell down the stairs, which makes me the coolest kid I know." Being able to laugh at yourself is a magnificent talent because 1.) you will always be entertained, and 2.) it makes you easier to get along with. Plus, you're probably quite funny. I think also (and keep in mind this is just what I think) that in order to laugh at yourself, you have to be able to see yourself from a distance metaphorically, and that allows you to see and evaluate yourself better in other regards, as well, which is also a really good thing to do.

There was virtually no structure to this post. But that's okay. And you're not supposed to begin a sentence with a conjunction. Whoops (x2).

Bye!
