Current Projects

I've started so many art projects lately. I know I do that a lot with little to no results, so it seems important to mention that some of them have come to fruition!

I have painted a deer skull and a goat skull.
I have completed six or seven wet on wet acrylic paintings that I am really proud of, and like three or four paintings that I'm not proud of and need to be painted over, and I'm working on two longer-term paintings because they're not wet on wet and need a billion coats of paint everywhere which is why I gave up on painting the first time around like ten years ago or something, but it actually is kind of therapeutic to do a bunch of coats of paint, especially because I'm working on a few projects at once to break the monotony.
I painted three or four rocks.
I painted a few bridal gown advertisements to look like dia de los muertos calaveras.

I embarked on a strange compositional journey and have written the bulk of the first song. This doesn't sound like much but I'm proud of it and I feel like I did something substantial so that's what counts, right?

I've also done a lot of work on the Three Sisters Curriculum for Rainbow Spirit Academy, about which I am SUPER excited. I'm doing my best to be positive and manifest RSA into my future and my present, but even if RSA doesn't work out I will still have an AWESOME curriculum I can use for other things--teaching my own kids not least among them!

That's all, just wanted to do a mood-boosting boast. Hopefully I will post pictures of some of my completed work soon!

Voldemort Can't Stop The Rock

Black skinny jeans from Target
Black leather boots thrifted from OOTC
Shirt from Harry and the Potters
Flower barrette made by me

Look at all the lovely pepper plants we're growing at my Dad's!
Most of them are variations of Ghost Peppers, plus a few Native Ghosts.
We also have a bunch of Habaneros and a bunch of Marbles.

I let the boyfriend attack my hair with Pink Manic Panic. I'm liking the way the pink and former green are playing together, so I'm probably going to lighten my roots, dye them turquoise, and add some hot pink and lime green down below. The orange has come as a side effect of the pink and green being there and I LOVE the resulting gradient.

For some reason I got a lot of comments about the two different eyebrow colors. It's just eyeshadow.

So in love with my new shirt. I got this one and a Potter Puppet Pals "Bother Bother Bother" tee at the Troubadour last Monday the 23rd, when Harry and the Potters and Potter Puppet Pals were both playing. I swear I have never rocked so hard in my life, even including that time at Lady Gaga's Monster Ball at Nokia Live, and I rocked pretty hard then. I didn't take any pictures, but I think my two friends that came with me did, so if I get any I'll post them.
In addition to being awesome as all get-out, this shirt is one of the softest things in existence. It's not quite up there with ultrasuede, but it's close.

Usually foils don't last very long at all under a regular topcoat, so I've been starstruck at how long these nails have lasted. I painted these probably two weeks ago (honestly don't remember), these pictures were taken last Wednesday night, and I'm still wearing the design right now. They've started growing out, but not chipping or flaking. WOW.

I painted on a neon goldenrod yellow polish first, and then covered it with dollarnailart.com's Rainbow Tie Dye nail art foil and topcoated. Then I added some green multi-sized glitter on the tips, topcoated, added some magenta hex glitter polish all over, and topcoated again.
To be fair, the crazy number of layers of glitter polish and topcoat (I topcoated double sometimes, and added topcoat on days when it started to look a little dull) might be a serious factor in why this has lasted so long.

I'm loving the nails WITH the hair. SO MUCH.
The End.

Wiser

I look back at words I wrote when I was wiser,
and now they offer some small comfort to this miser
who is me, the one, the same, who was the writer
who wrote words of comfort to me, who was wiser.

"I'm not young enough to know everything,"
experiences cheat us out of pure analogy.
The fairy tales don't fit with what remains of our beliefs,
and so we find ourselves in search of a new true mythology.

  • vintage sunglasses
  • thrifted boots
  • thigh highs... I want to say by Leg Avenue? But I bought them on ebay.
  • dress from Ross or Marshalls or TJ Maxx or something.
  • Lipstick is Revlon something or other I think.
  • Goddamn. I give you NO USEFUL INFORMATION.
Also, the above captions are song lyrics I wrote on the plane from Dallas to Los Angeles last weekend.

ALL the love,

Things Will Be Better In Chicago

Hello my lovely readers!
I wrote the below at the beginning of finals week and never had time to upload the pictures during finals, and then there was absolute hecticness of packing up, flying home, christmas in the woods, boyfriend coming to visit (he's still here), and all that jazz before I finally (boyfriend is playing nazi zombies on black ops with my brother :D) had time to come back and post this.
To those of you who contacted me during my absence, thank you for checking in--I really appreciate the thought. <3 I'm sorry it's been a while, and I'll have a few posts rolling right out for you in the next couple of days. I hope you all had happy holidays and got to spend some time with your folks and the people who matter most to you, and the people to whom you matter most. Without further ado, here is what I meant to post weeks ago.

---------------------------------------------------------------
The pendulum of finals is swinging out to the left in preparation for the full swing of pain, antisleep, paperwork, flashcards, death, coffee, sweatpants, and insanity coming soon to a theater near you. Aka Thursday. Aka sorry I haven't been posting much, but here's what I wore a couple days ago, and will be wearing again tomorrow for my psych history class review session, because me and my fellow group project members did (and will again be) perform(ing) St. Augustine: The Musical, aka Chicago, but about St. Augustine. There will be a video, io prometo. Anywho, so it's saints in fishnets (try not to take offense at that phrasing... or at the act itself, for that matter--offense is not meant), and this is what I wore.

  • dress from Target
  • fascinator from Primark
  • earcuff from F21
  • red fishnets by Hue
  • character shoes by Danshuz
  • red wool coat from Target

And, things will be better in Chicago. Aka after finals. Aka in the NETHERLANDS, because I'm doing study abroad next semester! WOOT! Notes on that later.

Furthermore, I have a tumblr now, so if YOU have a tumblr, too, you should follow me, and you should tell me so I can follow you, too.

That's all, folks.

Ice Cream Man

So I wrote a song this summer.
It's about an Ice Cream Man.
I did lots of research, I checked, there's no other ice cream man song like it. Heh. Heh. Heh.
I also drew a picture (in MS Paint) to go with it. :) In the video, the picture changes color. You should listen to it. This is kind of a rough recording, but I think it gets the point across...

Oh! Here comes the Ice Cream Van
(if you haven't heard the story it's real grand),
so sit you down and maybe hold someone's hand,
because you're gonna hear the story of the Ice Cream Man.

"Jing jingaling ling jing jing ling"
that's the sound that precedes all the ice cream he brings;
"jing jingaling," all the children sing
when they hear that ice cream.

Now they say it happened maybe twenty years ago,
when the ice cream van drove door to door,
and the ice cream sold to every house in the land,
well, he was one happy ice cream man.

jing jingaling ling jing jing ling,
selling out of ice cream

then one fine day as school let out
he spied a gaggle of giggling girly girl scouts
selling Thin Mints, Samoas, and All-Abouts,
and that afternoon the drumsticks didn't sell out.

jing jingaling ling jing jing ling
he didn't sell out of ice cream

next day plastered all over the town
posters of four girls who couldn't be found,
then around the corner came that jangling sound:
"jing jingaling" in the heart of town.

"jing jingaling ling jing jing ling"
goes the ice cream van with the ice cream.

so he pulls up next to the newspaper stand
soon every mother with a paper had a cone in her hand,
sales were booming even higher than he had planned
and that made him one happy ice cream man.

"jing jingaling ling jing jing ling"
loud and clear that man did sing.

several years went by without a trace of Roxanne,
and no one ever found Daisy, Maisy, or Diane,
but if you listen to the whispers passed from sir to ma'am,
you'll hear, "we think there's more than ice cream in that ice cream van!"

jing jingaling ling jing jing ling,
four daughters' bodies frozen like ice cream.

yes, the rumor spread as only rumors can,
they said this man was even worse than the Ku Klux Klan,
"it takes an evil man to make an evil plan!"
and that's what they said about the ice cream man!

jing jingaling ling jing jing ling
goes the ice cream van with the ice cream.

now, you don't have to take my word,
after all it's just a small-town rumor I heard,
but when you hear the jingaling of the ice cream van,
remember the story of the ice cream man!

"Jing jingaling ling jing jing ling"
that's the sound that precedes all the ice cream he brings;
"jing jingaling," all the children sing
when they hear that ice cream.

MUAHAHAHA!!!

Once Upon The Decemberists...

So I went to the Greek Theater in Griffith Park last night to see the Decemberists with Wye Oak. The Decemberists were great, although Jenny, their accordionist (is that a word?) was out of commission battling breast cancer, but she will survive, and it will be wonderful. The music was great from both bands, but Colin at least had stage presence and a sense of humor to which I could relate (unlike the wonderful singer but not-so-wonderful performer Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak). Also, the levels were good, which is apparently so difficult to accomplish (who knew?). I was glad that when the Decemberists played, I could actually understand the better part of the lyrics and enjoy myself.

It was actually my Dad's idea to go to the Greek this summer, but it was hard to find a time when we could actually see someone we wanted to see. Of course Adele's all sold out everywhere; Death Cab for Cutie, Lucinda Williams, Girl In A Coma, Thievery Corporation, and Beirut are all coming AFTER I leave for university; Steely Dan, who I REALLY wanted to see, played while I was away to see my grandma, and I didn't even notice Lykke Li was playing until the day of. However, we all like the Decemberists (since they're pretty awesome and everything), so... there.

This is what I wore. I had never been to the Greek before, so guessed on the dress code. I forgot to bring a jacket or sweater, but luckily the weather was not too cold and we had a steady supply of kettle corn to keep us warm. Plus, my boyfriend and I shared a hot cocoa and he hugged me when I was too chilly. <3

Dress from Forever21
Seashell Necklace pinned and worn as headband
Charlotte Russe Twisted Snakes Double Ring
Orange and Purple Rings received as gifts
Graftobian lipstick
Barry M electric blue liquid liner and lilac dazzle dust, among other things
Laser-cut flats from Target in mustard yellow

Love,
<3 Lovely

P.S.--this dress is the most comfortable thing ever. Plus, it makes me feel like a Greek Goddess or something.  Over the course of the summer, there was at least one occasion where I wore it several days in a row, only taking it off to shower and sleep. I am in love.

Janis Joplin Ate My Soul

So some of my Dad's students found this dress (of which I didn't get you any full body shots, lo siento) lying around the lab, but since it wasn't drenched in bromine or anything, Dad brought it home and gave it to me. I'm not exactly sure what the story was behind it, but it was in good condition and... if it's yours, call me to negotiate a trade, because I LOVE IT. :)

The necklace, as you may have noticed, I wear pretty much everyday, because my boyfriend gave it to me and I so rarely get to see him that holding the onyx pendant has become the closest I can get sometimes to holding him. <3 He's actually here, though, visiting me, right now, because he's gonna TAKE ANOTHER LITTLE PIECE OF MY HEART, NOW, BABY.

OH, LORD, WON'T YOU BUY ME A MERCEDES BENZ? MY FRIENDS ALL DRIVE PORSCHES, I MUST MAKE AMENDS. WORKED HARD ALL MY LIFETIME, NO HELP FROM MY FRIENDS, SO LORD, WON'T YOU BUY ME A MERCEDES BENZ?
Well, a girl can dream, but I'm not holding my breath for one. So no, but I might get my mom's old minivan when I can get my license! This whole going to college out-of-state thing is really confusing and inconvenient without a car, because, for one thing, the out-of-state is Texas, where there is little to no public transit to speak of (certainly not in Nowhere, Texas, where Baylor is--that is to say, there's a bus system that runs every hour till 5). For another thing, I can't practice driving in Waco, so not only am I not getting better, I'm probably losing all the progress I make during the winter, spring, and summer breaks. Of course, I only got my permit over this recent spring break (I failed the permit test in the winter break previous), and though I've been practicing driving all summer (I drove to JoAnn's and VONS today, yay!), I still don't feel confident enough behind the wheel to pass a practical exam, much less drive from LA to Waco, so I'm not taking the test this summer... meh.

These John Lennons were passed down to me semi-accidentally via a traditional middle-school girls' ritual sleepover involving sacrificial root beer, a shit-ton of candles and candy, and yummy Chinese tea stirred with the very same John Lennons you see above. Ah, laissez les bon temps rouler.

I really liked the above picture because, although I know I'm wearing fully functional two-lensed glasses, and you know I'm wearing fully functional two-lensed glasses, from the picture... who knew? I don't know what trick of angles and light caused such an effect, but ah, serendipity. Besides, I think it makes me look like a Steampunk pirate, or something.

The awesome cuff I got for $6.50 or thereabouts at Forever21, like, a week ago. They had it in silver and gold, but I only got it in gold, because that's the one that was screaming my name.

Now here are some cool pictures that show some detailing on the front of the dress (I really wish I'd gotten a full length shot, but I just didn't think to take any pictures once I got out of the car!).

I'm showing you the next two pictures because they are my purse. I know some girls are bag freaks and collect shit-tons of them, but I don't (although I do appreciate an awesome bag when I see one and have a small hoard of my own)--this is the purse I carry EVERY DAY with only very few exceptions.
It's vintage, and belonged to my mother's boyfriend's mother before it belonged to me, and has seen some love. It's got a big pocket divided lengthwise down the middle, and a little pocket on the back wall, which is perfect for me. Someday I'll do a what's in my purse post, but for now, just admire the outside. It's real leather, and has seen some real love, so I'm terrified I'll lose it too soon (especially given the amount of stuff I carry with me, plus my boyfriend just shoved an entire factory bag of Southwest Honey Roasted Peanuts in there (I approved of his flirting with the stewardess just this once :D).
Those tassels with the gold findings are so timeless and go with almost everything I wear. I've only ever carried a different purse because the fancy struck me, not because this "didn't go with what I was wearing."

The lipstick I'm wearing is actually lipstain, the color is Gothic, and it's Revlon Just Bitten. My mom got one, and I borrowed it one time too many, so she went back and got one for me, too! :)
I've heard complaints about the lipstains that have been popping up like dandelions lately, but I really like this one. If you use the balm that comes on the other end, it really isn't drying, it's not hard to get the color even everywhere, it's a great color, and although my mom had it come off eating and drinking, mine only just barely started to (I took it out once for Thai Iced Tea w/ boba, grapes, cheese, and crackers at a Marcia Ball concert, and once for a whole sit down meal at Pho79, a great Vietnamese Place around here. So, point being, I recommend it.

Night, y'all!
